Don't go in with high hopes

I gave in and saw the Twlight today. Yes, it came out in Canada (to those of you who have asked) I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I won't post too many comments here, but would love to talk to anyone that has seen it. My only advice would be that anyone who is thinking about seeing the movie should highly consider reading the book first. The reason I say that is because I would be willing to bet they will think the movie is pretty lame and during certain parts doesn't even make sense. Also the screen writed added a few one liners that were a little desperate. I sadest part for me is that the book had GREAT one liners and dialogue that weren't used.
By the end I came to one major realization - basically they couldn't cram all the character development that is need to make the story believable in 2 hours of film. I hope they think things through a bit more before making the next one. The books are great though!

  1. I'd have to say, I totally agree with you. I went and saw it today, and I was thinking- anyone who hasn't read the book is going to be so lost and hate this movie. I thought it was mostly cheesy and poorly edited. The cast wasn't that great either. All in all, if they're planning on sequels making ANYTHING, get a new editor, director, and screenwriter. And leave in all the good stuff that needs to be there for the thing to make sense!

  3. I had super low expectations, so I enjoyed it. But I agree there were lots of moments you wouldn't 'get' if you hadn't read the book. And I was sad that there was little if not any at all, character development with the other vampires. But so goes a movie when it is based on a book - you just can't get it all in there. I was happy that Edward was better looking in the movie than he was on the posters though! Phew!

  4. Oh, sad... I actually liked it. It was obviously different from the book - some scenes I would have liked to see left out, and some things pushed together and out of order - but I thought the movie carried the overall feel of the book.
Except for Jasper - yikes! He totally looked like Edward Scissorhands. So much for having the ability to control the feeling of a room and calm people down; he freaked me out!

  5. i'll be waiting for it to come out on DVD. If I pay $10 to go see it in the theater that will be just too much of a let down.

  6. I am going to be the voice of dissent. I LOVED it! I haven't read any of the books; I really hate those major fad things that you just can't escape from, but I went with my sister-in-law, my brother and my husband and all of us--yes, even the guys--absolutely loved it. In fact, I saw it again a few days later with my sister.

I agree, however, that I wanted more character development. But all in all, cheesy lines included, I loved it and I will definitely see it again.

P.S. It pains me to admit all of this, truly. I've put up such a stink about the "phenomenon" and how crazy the fandemonium is, and now I'm eating my words.
