I was so excited that it finally snowed here yesterday. You may think I am nuts, but I really miss the snow. It's been weird for me to go through the last 4 winters without much snow.
For those of you who don't know, I grew up in Utah with "The Greatest Snow on Earth" and attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah where there is more snow and colder temperatures than anywhere in Utah and that's saying something. The old saying- Walking to school up hill in snow everyday (800 E or Old Main Hill anyone?) isn't the half of it in Logan. Try walking everywhere in snow all winter, because your car sure isn't moving and even if you got it out you would get stuck somewhere (the only way to get off USU campus is to go down a hill).
Now for those of you still living in Utah you are thinking, so what we've had snow for weeks and it isn't going away any time soon. But keep in mind I live on an island where the temperatures almost never get below zero. (And I am still trying to get used the temperature in Celsius, so I may be a little off) Well, it finally snowed yesterday and I was loving it until I had to go see a few clients for work and learned what its like to drive with "island drivers" in the snow! I will never again complain about Utah drivers..... It was unbelievable. I narrowly missed being in 3 accidents. The last one, I had to hop a curb to avoid being hit! The freeway hit a high speed of 60 kph (quick calculation - 37 mph) It was hillarious to see people get scared, pull off to the side of the road (or never even make it to the SIDE of the road) and just abandon their vehicles. So to say the least, it was very annoying, dangerous at times, and it took me three times as long to get where I needed.
Even though I am complaining about the bad drivers I do love the snow and lets face it anything to switch up the rain, rain, rain, rain weather pattern is a good thing!

I am happy you finally got snow! We got our first snow tonight in provo, i didnt think it would arrive before we left for christmas, but it did, and for once i am also grateful for the snow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture! Where is it taken? I love snow, too. Now that we are on the East side of the mountains, we get lots more of it - hurray!
ReplyDeleteWow. If it is bad enough that you would never again complain about Utah drivers, then WOW is all I have to say.
ReplyDeleteThis is where your brother whole heartedly agrees with you. I enjoyed Logan, while I was there. But now that I have a north facing up hill drive way, two kids and tons of bags to carry up and down and nearly slipping on ice every day. I long for February when I go to California for some sunshine. So sadly, I no longer share the love of winter. I LOVE it during the holidays, but other than that I'm good to say goodbye to winter. (Jared does NOT agree with this thinking at all!!) Did you take that picture? If you did, well done.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw on the news that you had snow, I thought you would love it. I can just picture you trying to get your car down the icy hill on the west side of campus. Wheee!
ReplyDelete1. The last time I saw you was on the top of Old Main
ReplyDelete2. I used to live at the base of Old Main Hill so I would take a plastic bag to school each day we had snow and at the end of the day I'd slide down the hill to my house.
