We braved the snow a few nights later, but it wasn't much better. We were able to do bit of sightseeing downtown and then went to dinner for Matt's 31st Birthday.
The CN Tower
The next day we drove 3 hours south to Matt's home town of Wallaceburg (population 11,000). It is in Southwest Ontario, only 10 minutes from the Michigan border. It was great to see where he grew up, finally meet his entire family, hangout with some of his friends and see the house he grew up in. We actually stayed in Matt's childhood bedroom.....which was interesting. We were there for a week and had a lot of fun looking through family albums, telling stories, playing games and cooking together.
Christmas day was so much fun! Here is Matt early that morning.
I fell in love with Matt's grandpa. He spent the day telling me stories about his life, growing up in Quebec, serving in the Navy in WW2 and making me laugh so hard I almost cried. He has lived such an interesting life and has such a passion for living!! I learned alot from him.
We flew home on December 26th - Boxing Day (it is one of the biggest shopping days of the year in Canada) Our flight home seemed to take forever, but it was all worth it when we got back to Vancouver and were able to shop before taking the ferry back to "the island". We woke up that morning at 4am to get to the airport and didn't get home that night until after midnight, but all in all it was a great vacation.

His grandpa looks adorbale. And the picture of the sky line is beautimus. Sounds like a fun vacation, especially the shopping at the end ;) I had to work at AE (yeah I still work there, I know) the 26th and its the biggest day to have old ladies, who like to complain, return things...retail is so fun!
ReplyDeleteWe sure missed the two of you, but I am so happy you were able to meet his family. I bet you enjoyed learning more about the childhood of Matt. The story about his Grandpa is identical to my Grandpa's. He also was in the Navy and served in WW2. I wonder if they would have known each other? Your trip sounds soooo cold! Did you get a lot of great deals shopping? Well, glad your back and enjoying life. I hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great Christmas! That is a good photo of you with Matt and his grandpa. Your hair is different...I like it! :)
