I am sitting here watching the View (it's been my daily vice while I've been looking for a job) and I am amazed at what I am hearing. They have a guy on today who owns a website called http://www.ashleymadison.com/. I had heard about this website from my friend Jen, but hadn't known too many details. Wow, did I learn alot today!!
The website's motto is "Life is Short, Have an Affair" Can you believe this? Another one of their tag lines: "The World's Premier Discreet Dating Service with millions of like minded members".
If you have ever watched the View you know that Elisabeth Hasselbeck is a very conservative, outspoken woman. Today was her day to rip into their guest. When she asked him why he would start a website like this he went on to say that there will always be people who will be looking to have an affarr and this gives them a safe, private environment to have "relations" outside of thier current relations. REALLY?!? He said this gives people the opportunity to have an affair outside the work place or with people who aren't closely involved to their family. Does it really make a difference who someone has an affair with? They are still having an affair!! What makes the site "safe" for cheaters? The fact that everyone going on the site knows what they are getting into, as the members of the site are either cheaters themselves or looking for a cheater. He was proud to say that they have over 3,720,000 current member.
Here is a commercial they made for the Superbowl, but it was only aired in Texas

WOW! I think that is outrageous. When you said how many members they have, I seriously had to shut my jaw. Pathetic!
ReplyDeleteTrashy! That is so terrible...that someone would CREATE it, then that enough consumers would SUPPORT it. Ew.
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your 'vice' comment - back when Anna took 2 naps one was from 10 am - 12pm and I would watch 'The View' occasionally and I felt the same way. Something about all of them arguing got me hooked. I would have loved to watch Elizabeth with this one! What did everyone else on the panel say? It is just so wrong. I just can't even imagine....
ReplyDeleteIf today was April 1st instead of May 1st I would think this was a joke. Seriously disturbing.
ReplyDeleteWow! Now that is impressive. I have met very few people without a heart or conscious but this guy almost tops them all. I will never understand people or the reasons how they justify these actions. Why even get married at all. Makes me so angry!!!
ReplyDeleteSteven and I are sometimes up late watching Law and Order and I have seen this commercail! There is another one called sugardaddy.com and they totally promote "hooking up" no strings attached, don't come on this site if you are looking for a relationship, we don't want anything to do with marriage. Which maybe wouldn't have made me so mad, but they have a married couple on there and they are making fun of them!!!!!! What in the world??
ReplyDeleteThat is right up there with Dr. Laura when she told this lady that it was okay and healthy for her husband to look at a little porn. What?
ReplyDeleteI agree, just wrong. I'd like to say who am I to judge someone else's moral compass, but this really is disgusting. It may be all fun and exciting to the one looking to have an affair, but what about the spouse left holding the bag? How horribly selfish.
ReplyDeleteMy husband was such a left-behind spouse in his first marriage, and as anyone close to that situation knows it is nothing short of traumatizing and demoralizing. It took him years to get over that pain, and for people to justify and glorify that behavior is not okay.
