How Canada stole the American dream

I know that this is one magazine's opinion, but having lived in Canada for a year now (I can't beleive it's been that long), I am beginning to agree. Read on and be amazed! If you don't appreciate this article, or learn something new, you need to have your eyes opened a bit anyway (and my guess is that you probably live in Utah). ENJOY!!

  1. SO do these people who conduct the survey (hey maybe it's WW - haha) ask them to keep track of these things for a year and then they call them back...or do most people keep track of how many times a year they have sex? Kidding.

But seriously the US has problems with people having huge cars and homes that they don't need. I don't understand how people do it...or why. I read this article http://realestate.msn.com/loans/Article.aspx?cp-documentid=353659&GT1=7929&vv=550 and found it very interesting. You don't have to read it but basically it said: The average American home grew from 983 square feet in 1950 to 2,349 square feet in 2004 -- a 140% increase. Yet the American household shrank by 18% between 1970 and 2003, from 3.14 people to 2.57, on average.

Somethings wrong with this picture. And people who buys things they can't afford aren't just hurting themselves, but the economy and our interest rates. Okay. Sorry, there is my rant for the day.

  2. Very interesting. Very informative. You're getting more Canadian by the minute. That's good. Thanks for giving us the list. I didn't take time to read the whole article. Grandma

  3. Good stuff. Definitely gives you something to think about. So Canada is more than just "America's Hat"! LOL

But seriously, it is interesting to see not just the comparisons between the two countries but to see how the U.S. has changed--or declined, in my view. Maybe some healthy competition could do us some good!

Your post reminded me of this blog, "Stuff White People Like." It's kind of a spoof blog; very sarcastic and very funny! Anyway they have on their list "Threatening to Move to Canada." You should check it out!

  5. So, Just wanted you (my dear A.B.) to know that I am in fact NOT avoiding your phone calls...despite that I totally realize that it appears that way! I'm just TERRIBLE with returning phone calls....I'm much better at texting, you know that! :) PROMISE I WILL call you THIS WEEK! Maybe even on the 24th and we can celebrate Utah's Pioneer Day on the phone! HA, sounds like good times, I know...

  8. Shannon asked me to read this because she thought it was so interesting. And it was. I can't say I am too suprised by the numbers.

I guess I would be interested to see how the numbers would stack up if Canada was compared to just the states that border Canada that have similiar demographics. I think the numbers might be a little more even then. Or maybe not.
